http://iaa.umd.edu/

The Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA) is the two-year certificate program in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Maryland.  The IAA offers in-depth curricula in eight options:

  • Agricultural Business Management
  • Equine Business Management
  • General Turfgrass Management
  • Golf Course Construction
  • Golf Course Management
  • Landscape Management
  • Ornamental Horticulture
  • Sports Turf Management

The curricula are designed specifically for intended career areas.  Full-time students can earn their 60 credits in two years.  Continuing education and part-time students are always welcome.

The IAA helps people start, enhance, or redirect their careers.  This includes recent high school graduates, people who have been out of school for years, life-long learners and career changers. The IAA also provides a gateway for students who want to continue their education by transferring into a baccalaureate degree program.

The IAA offers continuing education opportunities and training for industry personnel. Students can work toward Pesticide Certification or recertification through the IAA’s online workshops and modules, which have been approved by MDA.

Online courses include:  Turfgrass Management, Insects of Ornamentals and Turfgrass, Pesticide Use and Safety, Equine Nutrition, and Pasture Management and Hay Production.
